How many cylinders does a Suzuki Swift have?

When I visited Japan last month I saw a number of Suzuki Swifts, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen in the States before. One of the things that stood out to me was how small they were, which got me thinking what size engine they used—how many cylinders does a Suzuki Swift have?

Excellent question! When it was officially introduced in 2004, the
Suzuki Swift
used various sizes of inline four-cylinder engines, but would go on to add three-cylinder engines into the mix in 2005 with the Suzuki G Series of engines.
Originating as an offshoot of the Suzuki Cultus—an affordable subcompact introduced in 1983—the Suzuki Swift was officially redesigned and rebadged in 2004, at which point it was marketed as a sporty subcompact in an effort to appeal to European drivers.
While the Suzuki Swift was never built or sold in the United States or Canada, the model has done extremely well in Japan, China, Thailand, Pakistan, India, and
Europe
