How many cylinders does a BMW X3 have?

We’ve finally saved up enough to buy a luxury SUV and I’m really interested in BMWs. I want to make sure my Beemer has plenty of engine power, though. How many cylinders does a BMW X3 have?

The BMW X3 has four cylinders or six cylinders depending on which trim you get.
Here’s a rundown of your options in the 2023 model:
  • sDrive30i—2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (248-hp, 258 lb-ft of torque)
  • **
    **—2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (248-hp, 258 lb-ft of torque)
  • **
    **—3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder coupled with a 48-volt mild hybrid system (382-hp, 369 lb-ft of torque)
  • X3 M—3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder (473-hp, 457 lb-ft of torque)
  • **
    X3 M Competition
    **—3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder (503-hp, 479 lb-ft of torque)
While the X3 Competion’s six cylinders put out a ludicrous amount of engine power (and cost a ludicrous $82,000+), you may find the M40i’s inline-6 to be powerful enough. Starting at $59,950, the M40i is a little more reasonable than the M or M Competition. You’ll also get better fuel efficiency at 21/26 MPG city/highway, as well as sporty upgrades like adaptive suspension dampers and adaptive steering.
If you’re cool with four cylinders, you can’t go wrong with either the sDrive30i or the xDrive30i. Both trims come with a strong suite of standard safety tech, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with more features than you’ll know what to do with. Packages are available for more customizable upgrade options, which can make these trims more cost-effective in more ways than one.
