You’re correct. China has about 450 EV manufacturer companies registered in the country and together they sold about $3 million in cars in 2021 alone.
China definitely has the largest EV market in the world: in 2020 it nearly matched the number of cars sold in all of Europe. This has mainly to do with the size of the country, but also with the range of prices of EVs on the market. While some of the luxury brands are more like the prices for an EV in North America, others can be as low as $4,000.
Due to the sheer number of them, many of China’s electric or New Energy Vehicle manufacturers aren’t as well known. But their top three companies, NIO, XPeng, and BYD are growing fast and may soon reach the European market.
