How many BMW Z1s were made?

I own a BMW Z1, and I’m wondering if it’s a rare or special vehicle. So how many BMW Z1s were ever made?

What a cool convertible you have! The BMW Z1 was made from March 1989 to June 1991, and exactly 8,000 vehicles were produced.
The BMW Z1 is the first model in BMW’s line of Z-Series roadsters (two-seater convertibles). The Z1 is unique because of its plastic body panels and vertically sliding doors, which drop into the door sills. It is also one of the first BMWs to use a multi-link rear suspension.
All were made at BMW’s plant in Munich, Germany, and all were left-hand drives. The majority (6,443 models, to be exact) were sold in BMW’s native German market. Italy received the second-greatest number of Z1s. France received a few as well, although the version sold there had yellow headlights rather than the clear headlights featured on the Z1s sold elsewhere.
Initial demand was strong, with

receiving orders for 3,500 vehicles before production began. However, demand dropped significantly around 1988, and BMW ended production in 1991.
