I’m about to buy a used BMW M4, which I’m stoked about—but the salesperson was trying to convince me it’s a “rare car”. I think he might be pulling one over on me. How many BMW M4s were made?

BMW M4
is a performance-tuned version of a BMW 4 Series, making it less common than the standard sedan, but calling it a rare car could be a bit of a stretch. While official production numbers for the M4 aren’t publicly available, it’s relatively common to see them on the road, and they’re generally not considered collector cars.However, it’s still possible your sales rep isn’t misleading you! BMW released several special editions of the M4, all of which were produced in limited runs, making them rarer than a standard M4. So if you’re looking to buy one of the following BMW M4 models, then your vehicle may in fact be a “rare car”!
- 2006 BMW M4 GTS: 700 units
- 2014 BMW DTM M4 Champion Edition: 23 units
- 2017 BMW M4 CS: 3,000 units
- 2018 BMW M4 Cabrio 30-Jahre Edition: 300 units
- 2020 BMW M4 M Heritage Edition: 750 units
