My dad is the proud owner of a 2002 Alfa Romeo Type 916 Spider, which he bought brand new when it was released. He wants to buy another one, but he’s having a hard time finding any. Is this a rare car? How many Alfa Romeo Spiders were made?

Let’s break down how many Alfa Romeo Spider were made by production numbers by broad generations:
- 1954 to 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider: 14,300 (and an additional 2,796 Spider Veloce models)
- 1966 to 1993 Type 105/115 Spiders: 124,104
- 1995 to 2006 Type 916 Spiders: 39,088
- 2006 to 2010 Type 939 Spiders: 12,488
The Alfa Romeo 916 Spiders are among the most underrated sports cars. Not many proper sports cars are tugged along by a front-wheel drive system, and certainly not with 3.2-liter V6 engines under the hood.
Your dad’s specific model year, the 2002 Alfa Romeo Type 916 Spider, will likely be hard to find: only 2,101 were built that year. The most rare trims in 2002 include the 2.0 JTS (one built) and the 3.2 24V (three built).
