How long will it take for your driving record to clear?

I’ve had my share of traffic tickets, but these days I’ve been a lot better about being a responsible driver. I really want a clean driving record—how long will it take?

Most traffic tickets remain on your driving record for a minimum of three years. As for points against your driver’s license, those will mark your record anywhere from 18 months to three years, depending on where you live.
Every state has its own laws when it comes to driving violations, and how severely a ticket weighs against your insurance costs can vary between companies. In some states, at-fault accidents can remain on your record for five years—but the vast majority of insurance providers don’t look further back than three when determining your rates
Keep in mind: Serious driving offenses, such as a DUI,  can take much longer to disappear from your record. On average, a DUI can appear for 10 years or more before being expunged from your record.
A spotty driving history can result in higher insurance premiums or even license suspension. Staying consistently ticket- and accident-free is the best way to recover from past traffic violations.
