How long will a DUI stay on my driving record in Virginia?

My friends and I went to Virginia Beach for the weekend, and I made some not-so-great decisions…and ended up with a DUI. How long will this stay on my driving record?

We’re so sorry to hear that! A DUI will stay on your driving record in Virginia for 11 years. This time period is known in
Virginia
as a “look-back period” or “washout period.” During this time, if you receive another conviction, your penalties will be much more severe. After the look-back period is over, any subsequent charges will be penalized separately from the original DUI conviction.
Unfortunately, a DUI will remain on your criminal record forever, without much chance of expungement. There are some exceptions to this; however, they are few and far between. In most cases, expungement is only a possibility when the driver can prove a wrongful conviction.
With major convictions on your driving record, you can expect a massive uptick in your car insurance prices. You can always find the lowest rates available, though, when you use the
Jerry
app.
As a licensed broker and the #1 rated insurance app, Jerry is your best bet for getting the most affordable coverage—no matter what your record looks like. Just download the app, fill in your information, and watch your options roll in within 45 seconds or less.
