How long will a DUI stay on my driving record in New Mexico?
I was hanging out in Albuquerque last weekend with some buddies of mine and must have drank more than I thought I did. I got nailed with a DUI on the way home even though I didn’t feel drunk. If this is my first offense, how long will a DUI show up on my New Mexico driving record?

You only need to blow a .08 BAC to get convicted of a
DUI in New Mexico
—like you, many people don’t realize they’re at this threshold before getting behind the wheel. As this is your first offense, you could also face the following penalties:
- License revocation for six months to a year
- Up to $500 in fines
- Installment of an ignition interlock device (IID) on your vehicle for up to a year
- Possible vehicle impoundment
A DUI on your driving record doesn’t just affect your driving privileges, but it unfortunately
increases your insurance rates

with your buddies, you’ll want to be aware that even one drink can affect your driving. The rule of thumb is to keep it at one standard drink per hour, but if you’re ever in doubt—always call a cab or an Uber. Remember: The police don’t need you to blow .08 BAC to have reason to convict you of drunk or drug-impaired driving. If they find that alcohol and drugs have impaired your driving to even the slightest degree, they will give you a DUI.
Bottom line: you’re probably better off from now on making sure you have a designated driver if you plan on drinking.
