How long should a car run after getting a jump?
I missed an appointment this morning because my car wouldn't start. I called my friend to come give it a jump. My car is running now, but I'm not sure if I can drive it yet. How long does it take to charge your battery after jumpstarting your car?

For more reliable results, drive it around instead of letting it idle. This should fully charge the battery so it won’t die on you again.
If your
battery dies regularly
, keep an eye out for symptoms of a weak or failing car battery, like:- Engine cranking slowly
- No lights or dim lights
- Radio not working
- Unusually slow windshield wipers
However, it’s also possible that you may have a
bad alternator rather than a bad battery.
Consult a mechanic to find out what’s going on.View full answer
