How long does it take to settle a car insurance claim?
I was in an accident with another driver a few weeks ago. I'm mostly okay—just a little scraped up—but unfortunately, my car wasn't so lucky. I've submitted a claim for the damage, but it hasn't been settled yet, and I'm a little worried about how much time it's been. How long does it normally take to settle a claim?

car insurance companies
settle claims within 30 to 45 days—but this can depend on the situation surrounding the claim. When you submit a claim to a car insurance company, they are required to investigate the accident. Both companies will assign claim adjusters to do this and determine who is at fault and the cost of damages.
If it is clear who is at fault and the damages aren’t significant, it should be a fairly easy process. If you aren’t at fault, you will submit repairs for damages to the other company or adjuster for approval. If approved, you can get your vehicle repaired.
If you are at fault, you’d need to have
collision insurance
on your policy to get your vehicle repaired. You’d still need to submit the repairs to your insurance for approval, but you’d also be required to pay your deductible—and if your deductible is more than the cost of repairs, you’d be responsible for paying for them out of pocket. You can always reach out to your insurance for an update on the claims process. They should be able to provide you with updated information, as well as an updated time frame.
