Louisiana requires that I get my car inspected before I can renew its registration. How long will this inspection take?

Good question! A full car inspection can take anywhere between one and five hours to complete. There are different steps in the process that may take longer than others.
As a general breakdown, here is a time range for each of these steps:
  • Document review will take 10 to 15 minutes.
  • The road test will take between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • The physical inspection will take between 15 and 20 minutes.
  • The mechanical inspection will take between 30 and 45 minutes.
Of course, these are rough estimates and the inspection can take longer if an issue is found at any step in the inspection process. It’s always safe to assume that an inspection will take an entire morning or afternoon, so make arrangements as needed. Better safe than sorry! And you may end up with some free time if everything goes smoothly.
If you want to keep your car in tip-top shape after the inspection, you might want to consider getting roadside assistance. The easiest way to do this is through
