How long does it take to fix flat tires?

I just got a flat tire from a pothole. Luckily, I was less than a block from a repair shop, so I just rolled in. Should I stick around and wait, or head home? How long does it take to fix a flat tire?

Sorry that you’ve got to deal with a flat! We’d recommend staying close to the repair shop—including wait time, a flat tire should only take a few hours to fix.
If the tire is salvageable, the mechanics should need between 40 and 60 minutes to patch the hole and get the tire refilled. This option will also save you money—you’ll only be paying for labor, as there’s no need to buy a new tire.
If the tire needs to be fully replaced, this should only take 10 to 20 minutes. However, it will be pricier, since you need to buy a new tire. If the repair shop doesn’t have the right tire in stock, this can drastically increase your wait time.
Of course, if the repair shop is crowded, you may need to wait for your car to be serviced. Ask a mechanic—they can give you a ballpark wait time. If you’re the first person in, you could walk out in fifteen minutes. If there’s a crowd, it could be a few hours.
If you’ve got a tire changing kit (plus a spare) or a
tire fixing kit
in your trunk, expect to spend 15 to 20 minutes wrestling one tire off and getting the new one on.
