How long does it take to charge an electric car with a regular outlet?

Oh no! I just bought an EV, and I was supposed to get my level 2 charger installed, but there was an issue with one of the parts and it won’t be installed until next week. How long does it take to charge an electric car with a regular outlet?

Congrats on the new ride and so sorry to hear about the delay! Fortunately, the level 1 charger should charge your car just fine overnight (8 to 12 hours).
With higher levels comes an increase in speed, but this doesn’t mean lower-level chargers don’t work. In fact, slow charging is better for your car’s battery than
rapid charging
!
A level 1 charger will plug into a 120-volt outlet with no problem, but due to the slower current and decreased voltage in that outlet, something as large as a car will need several hours to get a full charge.
If you do need faster charging, consider visiting your nearest charging station.
