You’re right, depending on the battery size, certain EVs can have longer charging times. The same principle applies to BMW electric cars, but recent models have increased charging time.
Another factor that affects charging speed is the
type of charger
. EV chargers range in power and price with Level 1 being the lowest, and Level 3 being the highest.
The 2019 BMWi3 does have a much slower charging speed than its predecessors. In a test done by BMWblog on a level 2 charger, the car took seven to eight hours to charge from 0 to 100%, vs the 2015 model which only took four to five hours.
For many EVs, the battery charging rate drops beyond 85%. This is normal and helps to protect the battery from overcharging.
