How long does insurance take to pay for a stolen car?

My car was stolen over a week ago, and the police told me it's unlikely they will recover the vehicle. I filed a claim with insurance, but I'm worried about how long this might take—I still need a car to get to work. How long does it take for an insurance company to pay for a stolen vehicle?

In most cases, car insurance companies will take no longer than 30 days to pay for a stolen vehicle. The reason behind this longer waiting period is that many car insurance companies wait to see if the car is recovered by police—after all, it’s easier for everyone if the police do end up finding your car.
In the meantime, you can check your policy to see if you’re eligible for
rental reimbursement
, which covers the cost of a rental car until your own vehicle is returned or the payout is received.
