How long does a DUI stay on your driving record in Texas?

I was leaving my friend’s house in Dallas after having a few beers. I blew a 0.09, so I received a DUI. I know there are legal consequences, but how long will affect me?

A DUI stays on your
Texas driving record
for life—and a first-time offense can cost up to $3,000.
That said, Texas has an interesting law that may allow you to have the record of your DUI sealed. Known as House Bill 3016, the law allows first-time
Texas DUI
offenders to seal the charges—essentially erase them from their record—if they complete court-ordered community service or confinement.
You will not be eligible for the program if any of the following apply:
  • It was a second or third offense
  • Your blood alcohol content was greater than 0.15
  • The incident resulted in an accident involving another person
To get the charges sealed, you will likely need to hire an attorney. The process is fairly complicated and you’ll want someone knowledgeable to walk you through things.
