How long does a car battery last in Hawaii?

My wife and I are thinking about moving to Hawaii sometime in the next year or two. However, the prices for everything are frighteningly expensive. As such, we want to budget for every possible scenario, including car ownership. How long will a car battery typically last in the Aloha State?

A car battery will typically last about three to five years in
Hawaii
, but the life span depends on the precautions you take.
Hawaii’s warmer climate usually reduces the life of a battery down to three years or even less. When temperatures in Hawaii get into the 80s or higher, the temperature of an engine compartment left to the elements can get as hot as 150 degrees—or even 200 degrees after you drive.
Temperatures at this level can cause internal liquids to evaporate, corrosion, and other issues that can lower the life span of your car battery. To increase the life span, keep your car parked in the shade or a garage and regularly clean debris off it.
If you have to replace it, expect your
car battery cost
to reach around $200.
