I am purchasing a used car from a dealership. I have insurance on another car currently. How long do I have to insure a used car?

If you purchase your vehicle from a dealership, they will want to see
proof of insurance
when you pick up the vehicle, unless you’re paying cash for the car. Since you have a current car insurance policy, check with the dealership.
Most car insurance companies extend coverage to any car that you recently purchase. Typically this grace period is between 14 to 30 days depending on the company and state law. The dealership may accept proof from your current policy to release the vehicle.
Even if they do, add insurance to your car as soon as possible. While the grace period is helpful, it only extends coverage that you currently have. If you need any additional coverages, you would have to add the vehicle to the policy.
