How long do you have to add a new car to insurance with Allstate?

I’m in the middle of finalizing a new car purchase. How quickly will I have to add the vehicle to my Allstate insurance? Is there a grace period?

“Allstate provides a grace period of 30 days to insure a new car. If you’re an existing customer, that means you have about a month to officially add the vehicle you recently bought to your policy.
But that grace period only extends the coverage that is currently listed on your policy. So if you only have liability coverage on your old car, then your new car will only have liability.
That’s why it’s important to purchase any additional coverage you need right away. In fact, the dealership won’t allow you to drive the car off the lot without the legal coverage required.
To make the process quick and easy, you’ll need the following information:
  • The vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Personal information, including your driver’s license number and social security number
Expect your insurance rate to go up once the vehicle’s been added—especially if you bought something brand new, as premiums are based in part on the cost of the car.
