How long do I have to switch my car insurance to a new car?

I bought a new Chevy Volt last week, replacing my old gas guzzler. I haven't swapped my insurance over to the new car yet... Is that bad? How long do I have to switch my car insurance to a new car?

Congrats on your new car! Most insurance companies offer a grace period of up to a month to
swap your insurance
from your old vehicle to a new one. During this period, your new Chevy will be automatically covered until you officially switch the policy to your new car.
The length of the grace period can be anywhere from a few days to an entire month, depending on the insurance company. Make sure you switch your insurance to the new vehicle before the grace period runs out.
