How long do I have to insure my new car?

I am buying a new car. I'm trying to find cheap car insurance, so I don't want to insure it right away. How long do I have before I need insurance?

Congrats on the new car! Now on to the less fun stuff like getting insurance!
Car insurance
is required on every registered vehicle in most states. Additionally, most dealerships require car insurance before taking the vehicle home.
If you’re currently insured, some states extend coverage to a new vehicle for 90 days. However, if you don’t have a current policy, you’re currently uninsured.
Leaving your new car uninsured isn’t a great idea. While an accident may seem unlikely, plenty of people get into collisions with their new cars. If your car is damaged or totaled and you don’t have insurance, you’re responsible for all the costs out of pocket.
If you’re concerned about the cost of insurance, you should comparison shop. Comparing rates between insurance companies is the easiest way to save money on an insurance policy. You can request
car insurance quotes online
or use a service like

.
You may also want to consider carrying
liability car insurance
to start and add additional coverage once you can afford it.
