How long you have to file a
car insurance
claim after an accident depends on your location. But since the accident occurred just three weeks ago, you shouldn’t have any issues.
It’s to be expected that some injuries may not be identifiable immediately after an accident, so you have some time. But every state does have a statute of limitations for bodily injury resulting from a car accident. For example, in New York, you have two years to submit a claim.
Insurance companies have rules regarding claims, too. Often, they want you to file a claim as soon as possible. So you’ll want to inform them right away in your scenario.
And in the future, it’s recommended that you notify your insurer anytime an accident occurs—even if you don’t have immediate injuries to report. Doing so will reduce the chance that your
claim will be denied
