We had a pretty bad snowstorm that damaged our roof. Our home insurance company is processing the claim, but I feel like it’s taking a long time. Normally, I don’t rush processes like this, but my son is about to go to college and the claim process has disrupted my budget, so I’m a bit worried about paying for this coming semester’s tuition. How long does a home insurance claim typically take?

I’m sorry to hear you’re in a bit of a tight spot at the moment. Generally,
home insurance
companies pay out claims between a few days and a few weeks after they received the claim. More complicated claims may take longer, up to a couple of months. Each state has its own requirements and regulations about how long a company has to respond to and finalize a claim.
If you feel like it’s taking too long and you’ve already talked with your insurance company about it, then you can check in with your state’s insurance commissioner or hire a lawyer.
