How long can you store diesel fuel?

I drive a diesel engine truck and I want to keep some diesel fuel on hand, especially during the winter if I can’t make it through the snow to a gas station. How long can you store diesel fuel before it goes bad?

Under ideal conditions, diesel fuel will have a shelf life of six to twelve months. After that, diesel can gunk up and wreak havoc on your engine.
You can expand the life of your stored diesel fuel by using an approved diesel storage container, leaving free space to reduce water condensation, and placing it in a cool, dry space.
