How long can you drive on a bad CV axle?

My dad thinks I have a bad CV axle. I don’t have the money to fix it up right now and I’m wondering if it’s safe to keep driving until I can save up. How long can you drive on a bad CV axle?

You may be able to drive on a bad CV axle for several months, but it depends on the extent of the damage.
We’re obliged to let you know that the safest thing to do is get the axle replaced immediately. The longer you wait, the worse the damage will be. The joint will disintegrate and could cause you to lose control of the vehicle.
However, if you need a month or two to earn money for the repair, then you may be able to drive on the bad axle for a short time. Dry weather may stretch the time that you can safely drive. Wet and snowy conditions make it more dangerous.
You’ll need to spend between $200 and $700 to replace a bad CV axle.
