How long can a puppy travel in a car?

My husband and I are bringing our beloved Maltese, Princess, on our road trip up the California coast. We are worried about keeping her in the car for too long since she is only three months old. How long can a puppy travel by car?

I hope you, your husband, and Princess have a wonderful trip! While there isn’t a set amount of time a puppy can travel by car, you’ll need to get her adjusted to car rides.
Typically, you’ll want to start with short, 15 minute drives and then slowly increase the time before you leave on the trip. You don’t want to be four hours into
a road trip
before you realize your pooch isn’t ready yet.
While every puppy is different, plan to stop every two hours to give them a chance to use the bathroom, stretch, and destress from the time on the road. You’ll also want supplies handy in the car, like food, water, and toys. Consider getting a car seat or safety harness to ensure your puppy is safe in the event of an accident.
