How is synthetic oil made?

I just added synthetic oil to my car during my last oil change. I know it's supposed to work better than conventional, could you tell me how it’s made?

Sure thing! Synthetic oil starts as crude oil—just like conventional oil. However, synthetic oil is highly processed and refined to the point that its chemistry no longer reflects the natural product it came from.
Basically, synthetic oil is classified as a manufactured lubricant with powdered additives mixed into the carrier oil. The carrier oil is also an altered petroleum product and it helps evenly disperse the additives in the mixture.
The oil additives do things like:
  • Prevent corrosion
  • Clean engine deposits
  • Improve lubrication
  • Extend the time frame between oil changes
Synthetic oil does a great job of protecting your motor and extending the life of your vehicle. Regular maintenance is an important—and often overlooked part of car ownership, just like car insurance. You can protect your car with the right policy without any hassle.
