How is driving in London?
We’re taking the kids to London and they’re very excited—besides them wanting to know if they can greet Londoners by exclaiming “‘ello Guvna!” (can they?), I'm more concerned with getting around and am considering renting a car. So, how is driving in London?

First off, we do not recommend greeting random Londoners with a hearty ‘ello Guvna’, no matter how well-intentioned. In terms of driving in London, it is not easy due to traffic, limited parking, and driving on the left-hand side of the road.
London is home to nearly nine million people, many millions of whom are drivers—London is very busy due to private cars, lots of public transit, and tons of pedestrians. Finding a parking spot in London can be a massive headache—be sure to read the signs to make sure parking is allowed. Also, mind the yellow lines (for waiting), and the red lines (no parking any time).
If you’re driving in Central London during peak hours, you’ll have to pay a toll—this is to minimize congestion as well as emissions. And as we’re sure you know, driving in the UK means you’ll be doing so on the left-hand side of the road—so be prepared for a bit of a mind-flip before you get behind the wheel.
Of course, the easiest way to get around London is to use its public transportation system. The London Underground, also known as The Tube, boasts an extensive network, is very efficient, easy to use, and will get you pretty much anywhere you need to go in the British capital. As well, there are above-ground rail lines, double-decker buses, black cabs, and Ubers to get around.
