How do I get my car towed for free?

What's the cheapest way to tow a car? My car isn’t the most reliable right now. Occasionally—actually, more than I’d like to admit—it breaks down and I have to get it towed. The expense has been adding up. Is there any way to have your car towed for free?

You may be able to get a free tow if it’s included in your
car insurance
policy or one of the following:
  • Your car insurance policy: Your
    collision coverage
    or
    comprehensive coverage
may include towing services depending on the circumstances.
  • Your car warranty: Some automakers include towing and/or roadside assistance as part of the warranty.
  • Your credit card or wireless service providers: Some credit card companies and mobile carriers offer roadside assistance services.
You may want to invest in standalone
roadside assistance
services if it’s not included with any of these options if you find yourself needing a tow.
What to do: Look into companies like Urgently or
AAA
that offer towing coverage with their memberships if you don’t already have roadside assistance.
Keep in mind: Towing distance depends on the roadside assistance service you have, so find a membership that best fits your needs.
