How far is Texas from Arizona driving?

I live in Tucson, and I was a lifelong vegetarian until I tried meat last Tuesday, and now I can’t stop thinking about brisket. I hear amazing things about Stubbs B-B-Q in Austin, so Jerry please tell me—how far is Texas from Arizona driving?

We here at Jerry can spot a hangry person when we see one, so we’ll cut to the chase—it’s a 13 hour and 4-minute drive from Tucson to Austin that will cover 893 miles, along I-10 E.
Now on your journey, don’t get so excited right away when you cross from New Mexico into Texas thinking you’re closing in on your destination—you’re not. You see, Texas is huge, and once you cross into the Lone Star State, you still have most of your journey ahead of you, so sit tight and keep your eyes on the prize.
Of course, if you want to extend your trip a few hours through the New Mexico desert (we’re thinking you won’t, but this is our job, remember), try this route:
  • Follow I-10 E to Las Cruces, NM and take US-70 E
  • Take US-380 E just past Picacho, NM
  • At Brownfield, TX, follow US-137 S
  • Continue on US-87 S just past Los Ybanez, TX
  • Follow US-71 E at Brody, TX
  • Take N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd in Austin, TX
  • Continue on N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd and E 8th St to Stubbs B-B-Q, 801 Red River St, Austin, TX, for barbecue nirvana
This extended Arizona to Texas journey to satisfy your meat cravings will take 15 hours and 7 minutes, covering 977 miles. You’ll pass through the White Sands Missile Range—you know you’re hungry when you drive through missile testing grounds—the famous Roswell, NM and all its alien trappings, not to mention West Texas’ Chihuahuan Desert before arriving in Austin. Enjoy your meal—it will be worth it.
