How far is 3 miles in minutes driving?

A friend of mine thinks you can drive three miles in two minutes, but that seems too fast to me. How long does it take to drive three miles?

Three miles of driving can take anywhere from three to 10 minutes depending on the area and local speed limit.
If you’re driving for three miles on a freeway with a 65 mph speed limit, then it’s likely the trip will only take three minutes. But if you’re driving through residential areas, which typically have a 25 mph speed limit, it could take around seven minutes.
Remember, these external factors could also slow you down:
  • Stop signs
  • Traffic lights
