How far is 20 miles in minutes driving?

I was late to my partner’s house, and they got mad because I’m only 20 miles away. They think it should only take about 10 minutes to get to them, but the drive takes me almost 30 minutes! How long does it take to drive 20 miles?

Being late is always frustrating, but sometimes it’s inevitable. While 20 miles isn’t as far as it seems, you’d need to drive 120 miles per hour to do it in 10 minutes!
That said, 20 miles should take between 20 to 40 minutes to drive. Of course, the time it actually takes depends on the speed limit:
  • If you are driving 20 miles on the interstate, where the speed limit is 65 mph, it should only take around 20 minutes.
  • If you are driving 20 miles on city streets, it will take much longer due to slower speed limits, stop signs, and stoplights.
Traffic is yet another factor that could turn a 20-mile drive into a 40-minute endeavor. Luckily, there are plenty of
traffic apps
that can help you find the shortest route to your destination at any given time.
