Moving will likely change your car insurance premium, but it might increase or decrease depending on where you move. Here are a few ways your insurance rate might be impacted by your move:
  • If you move from the suburbs to a large city, your premium will likely rise due to increased risks of
    theft
    and/or damage.
  • But if you move out of the city, you might see a drop in your monthly bill—since the risk will likely be lower.
  • Changes in your parking situation could also impact your insurance. While parking in a personal garage is safe for your car, parking on the street is risky. So you may pay more if your new home doesn’t come with a safe parking space.
  • If you’re moving to a new state, your
    minimum state insurance requirements
will also change. That means you may be able to drop extra coverage or you may be forced to buy more. But the state requirements are usually low and shouldn’t impact you too much.
