How does Progressive Snapshot know if I’m driving?

For years I’ve been paying insurance rates through the roof. I saw an advertisement for Progressive Snapshot and thought I’d give it a try to lower my premium, but how does it know if I’m driving?

Progressive Snapshot
knows if you’re driving by using GPS to measure your speed and the distance you’ve traveled.
Here are a few things to note about Progressive Snapshot:
  • When you sign up for
    Progressive
Snapshot: Each driver on the insurance policy will be required to download the mobile app.
  • In certain states: You can choose the vehicle you drive most often and each phone will then be linked to that specific vehicle.
  • In other states: An average of driving data is collected across all vehicles on the policy.
  • In either situation: Your app will show your driving data, even if you occasionally drive another vehicle that you haven’t listed as your primary one.
Keep in mind: If you’re in your vehicle with someone else on the policy, the mobile app will determine who’s driving and collect relevant data for that person. But on the off chance that the app registers data for both people in the vehicle, you can open the app and correct the trip information.
