How does arthritis affect driving?

I just found out that I’m in the early stages of arthritis. While I’m worried about many things in my life and the repercussions of arthritis, I’m most worried about driving. What’s it like to drive with arthritis?

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Any sort of ailment is scary, but hopefully, you can find the right medication to make your symptoms subside.
Here’s how arthritis can affect driving:
  • Limiting how far you can turn your neck, shoulders, and back, which can make seeing your blind spot difficult
  • Hindering your ability to grip the steering wheel or gear shift
  • Having difficulty getting in and out of your car
  • Disrupting your ability to apply pressure to the gas and brake pedals
  • Feeling drowsy from arthritis medication
Be sure to consult your doctor to make sure you’re healthy enough to get behind the wheel. Ask about non-drowsy medication that can alleviate some of your arthritis symptoms, too!
