How does a V8 engine work?

I’m considering purchasing a new car, but I’m not really sure I understand engine stats. Is there a difference between V8 engines and four or six-cylinder engines, in terms of how they work?

Great question!
The main difference between a V8 engine and other types of engines is the number of cylinders present.
For a V8 engine, that number is eight Otherwise, V8 engines work much as the same as any four-stroke internal combustion engine. Once your combination of fuel/air enters via intake valves in the cylinders, the pistons and spark plugs do the work of capsulizing and igniting the engine.
Once your engine is sparked, the crankshaft (to which all eight cylinders are connected) sends power to the transmission, which delivers power to the necessary components of your vehicle, including your wheels and steering system.
