How does a car radiator work?

What is a car radiator and how does it work? My dad keeps telling me to get my radiator checked, but I don’t know where to start! How does a car radiator work, and how can I check it?

Great question—and your dad’s definitely right that it’s important to keep your radiator working. Your car radiator cools off any excess heat from your engine and should be checked if it is causing any concern.
The radiator acts as a built-in coolant system that is meant to circulate cooling liquid in order to disperse higher engine temperatures. The coolant is pumped into the engine, lowering the overall temperature, and is pumped out to the radiator.
The radiator then cools down the heated coolant by passing it through thin metal sheets, which allows the heat to easily flow out of your car. Some radiators even have fans built in to cool off the liquid even more, dispersing heat away from your car’s engine.
