How does a car air conditioner work?

Maybe this is a silly question, but I’ve always wondered—how does a car air conditioner work?

I think we’ve definitely all thought about this at one point or another! The air conditioning system works by manipulating refrigerant between a liquid and a gaseous state.
As the refrigerant changes states, it absorbs heat and humidity from the vehicle and allows the system to blow out cool, refreshing air.
Important pieces of the system that make it work include the:
  • Compressor: Separates the low-pressure side from the high-pressure side
  • Condenser: Reduces the temperature of the refrigerant
  • Dryer: Removes water from the refrigerant
  • Metering Device: Lowers refrigerant pressure
  • Evaporator: Refrigerant changes back to a gaseous state
If you want to make sure you’re as up to date on your car insurance as you are on your air conditioner, you may want to review your
