How do you turn on the parking lights in a BMW?

The other night, my car broke down on the side of the road, and I had to wait for a tow truck in complete darkness, which cost me an arm and a leg. I wanted to turn on my parking lights to make my car more visible and avoid a collision, but I couldn’t figure out how. Fortunately, I got home safely, but how can I turn on the parking lights in my BMW?

I’m sorry to hear your car broke down but relieved to know you got home safely!
The process to turn on the parking lights in a
BMW
depends on the model you have, but in general, there are three methods you should try.
  1. With the ignition off and all the doors closed, push the turn signal lever up or down for a few seconds until the lights are illuminated. On some models, pushing up will turn on the right side parking lights, and pushing down will turn on the left side.
  2. Locate the parking light buttons to the right of the headlight controls and push the appropriate button.
  3. Locate the headlight controls and turn the switch to the 1 position, typically the third position from the left or the first selection past the 0 or off position.
Keep in mind that the parking lights can drain your car’s battery, so they should be used sparingly and only when absolutely necessary. If left on for too long, you’ll need a jumpstart to get going again.
Finally, you can avoid having to pay an arm and a leg for a tow truck in the future by having a
car insurance
policy that includes
towing and labor coverage
.
