How do you turn on AWD in a GMC Acadia?

I recently purchased a GMC Acadia after moving to an area that gets a lot of snow. I’d like to use the AWD function when I need it, but I’m not sure how to turn it on. Can you tell me how to switch to AWD while driving an Acadia?

You cannot manually switch to AWD while driving a
GMC Acadia
If your SUV is equipped with this optional drivetrain, your GMC Acadia will automatically switch between FWD and AWD for you.
This may occur if your vehicle:
  • Starts sliding while
    driving on snow
    or ice.
  • Loses traction on a wet road (AKA hydroplaning).
  • Gets stuck in mud or on another slick surface.
There’s a catch: You can manually switch to 4WD while driving an Acadia, which works a little differently from the automatic all-wheel drive. Use the Drive Mode Control Feature to switch to 4WD for extra traction when you’re stuck on particularly slippery surfaces.
