How do you switch car insurance carriers?
What's the best way to switch to a new car insurance carrier? My current car insurance company is slow and unresponsive. I think it's time for me to make a change.

“Switching car insurance can seem a little overwhelming, but the process is fairly simple! In fact, all you need to do is find a plan you like, buy your new policy, and cancel your old one.
Here’s how to make the process as easy as possible:
- Decide how much coverage you can afford before switching policies. This is a great way to narrow down your choices to a more relevant selection.
- Compare quotes and check for discounts with at least three different providers. Policy prices and premiums vary drastically from company to company, so make sure you’re getting a good deal before you settle.
- Evaluate the new company’s service record to make sure the provider is consistent and reliable. Just because a policy is cheap does not mean it’s a good buy.
- Communicate with your current insurer about your plans. It may be uncomfortable, but they’ll be able to give you information about their cancellation process—and they might even give you a discount to stay!
- Avoid any lapses in coverage by making sure you buy your new plan before canceling your old one. It is illegal in many states todrive without insurance, and any accidents that occur while you’re not covered will have to be paid directly out of pocket.
