How do you submit a home insurance claim?

There was a huge windstorm in my area. A tree fell onto our property and damaged our home. How do we submit a claim to our insurance?

“Submitting a claim to your home insurance is a similar process to submitting a car insurance claim.
Since the damage was caused by a windstorm, your homeowners policy should cover the damage. Windstorms are a covered peril on both HO-2 and HO-3 policies.
With HO-2 and HO-3** policies, claims are paid out on a replacement cost basis. This means your insurance will pay for the repairs or replace the property with property that will perform the same, even if it isn’t exactly what you had.
To submit a claim, you’ll want to reach out to your home insurance company as soon as possible. Some companies have time limits for claim submission, just like car insurance claims.
Once you inform your insurance company of the damage, they’ll likely send out an adjuster or request photos of the damage. They may request that you get an estimate on the cost of repairs as well. From there, they’ll either approve or deny the claim. If it’s denied, you always have the right to find out why and possibly negotiate for coverage.
And if you’ve ever had problems with a claim on your home or car, you may want to consider switching providers. By using the Jerry app, you compare car insurance quotes and find a provider that offers bundling for even more savings.”
