How do you start a Toyota Highlander with a dead key?

, there’s actually a metal key inside the key fob that you can use to start your vehicle.Follow these steps to start your Toyota Highlander with a dead key:
- First, push the button on the bottom of your key fob to release the metal key. Then, pull it out of the fob.
- Unlock your driver’s side door with the metal key.
- Once you’re seated, depress the brake, hold your key fob as close to the push-start button as possible, and push the start button.
Since the key fob doesn’t need much power, it’s rare for them to completely die. That’s why most of the time these steps should help you start your car without a fully functional fob.
