How do you start a car when the fob is dead?

I drive an Acura ILX. My fob died. How do I go about starting my car when it doesn't even work to let me in?

Fobs are usually super convenient—until they die. Thankfully, there are just a couple of steps to getting in and starting your car with a dead fob.
First, you can release a physical key from the inside of the fob. Slide the lever on the side of the fob and pull the key ring at the same time to release it. Then, you can unlock your doors.
Then, push your car’s start button and follow directions to press your fob against the button. (Touch the side opposite the keyring to the button.) The indicator light will start to flash, and you should be able to start the car as you normally would.
When you get home, replace the battery in your fob. You will want to remove the hard key like you did to get into your car, then use the key (or something flat) to pry the two sides of the fob apart.
Use a 2032 battery to replace the old one and face the plus side toward you when you put it in.
If you’re ever worried about getting stranded or locked out of your car, it’s best to be prepared with a roadside assistance package. Jerry has partnered with Urgently to offer a comprehensive roadside assistance membership for only $6.99 a month.
