How do you soothe a baby in a car seat?

My little one hates car rides, short ones, long ones, it doesn't matter. I want to make her feel better, but I know I need to keep her in the seat. How can I soothe my baby while she is in a car seat?

Answer
Having an upset baby in the car while you are driving can be heartbreaking and distracting! We all want to make sure our little ones are happy, but safety is key! So you’ll need to leave the baby in the car seat while you are driving.
If you want your baby to feel more comfortable driving in the car, try leaving the car seat in the house. Let them crawl in it and play around with it a bit. When it comes time to get in the car, they’ll be more familiar with the seat, and it won’t feel as scary.
Here are a few more tips to help your baby feel more comfortable in the car:
  • Practice: Try taking your child on short drives around the block, slightly increasing the trip every time.
  • Distractions: Pack a travel bag with soft toys for the road, or put on music for a family-friendly sing-along!
  • Attention: If another person is coming along, have them sit in the back seat to keep your little one company.
  • Professional advice: Some babies just don’t do well in the car. If you think your child may be susceptible to car sickness, ask their pediatrician about your options.
If you’re planning on taking your baby on a long road trip, make sure you have a solid roadside assistance plan. Nothing can throw off your trip, like dealing with an upset baby on the side of the road while you wait for a tow truck.
Luckily, you’ll never have to worry about being stranded with Jerry’s roadside asssistance. Jerry’s leading roadside assistance includes jump starts, lockout service, key replacement, and towing. With their nationwide network or over 55,000 service providers, you’re always covered.
