How do you shop for car insurance?

I've been with the same insurance company for three years. My rate has increased at the last two renewals. My family recommends that I shop around for car insurance. How would I do that?

“If your
car insurance
has been increasing over the last two renewals, your family has the right idea! Shopping around for car insurance is the easiest way to save money.
To shop around, compare quotes from different insurance providers. Aim to gather quotes from at least three insurers. You can get quotes online, by phone, in person, or through
Jerry
. As a licensed broker that offers end-to-end support, the free Jerry app gathers affordable quotes, helps you switch plans, and even cancels your old policy for you.
When getting a quote from an insurance company, have your personal information and VIN (vehicle identification number) handy. You’ll also need to tell them what
type of coverage
you’re looking for.
Once you provide them with that information, they’ll give you a rate. If you find a rate you like, you can purchase the policy, cancel your current insurance, and make the switch. If you don’t find anything cheaper than what you’re currently paying, shop around every renewal.”
