How do you reset the oil maintenance light on a 2012 Toyota Highlander?

Can I reset the oil maintenance light on my 2012 Toyota Highlander? I haven’t reached the mileage on the sticker from my last oil change so I think it’s an error, and I don’t want to pay a bunch of money for some professional to tell me the same thing.

It’s understandable that you want to reset the light yourself if you’re sure that it’s an error. You can reset the oil maintenance light in your 2012
Toyota Highlander
by following these steps:
  • If your Highlander has a key, turn the ignition to the RUN position. If your Highlander is a push-to-start, push the button once without depressing the brake.
  • Make sure that the display shows Trip Meter A, then turn your car off.
  • Press and hold the trip meter reset button located on your dashboard.
  • Turn your car back to the RUN position while holding down the button.
  • Don’t release the button until your display reads 000000. Then, release the button and turn your car off.
  • To make sure that the light has reset, turn your engine on and check your display.
While this will reset the maintenance light, it’s still a good idea to get the problem checked out by a professional, especially if the oil light comes back on after you reset it.
The light
can indicate several different problems, not just a low oil level. It’s also possible that you need an oil change, even if you haven’t reached the expected mileage yet.
