How do you reset a car alarm after changing the battery?

I just replaced my car’s battery and now the car alarm is going off non-stop. How do I reset it?

You should be able to
turn off a car alarm
that keeps going off after a battery change by manually unlocking the car with your key—not the key fob.
Take the following measures in this order if that doesn’t work:
  • Step 1: Turn the car on, then turn the dashboard lights on and off a few times.
  • Step 2: Disconnect and reconnect the battery.
  • Step 3: Use your
    car owner’s manual
to locate your car’s alarm transmitter system and use the attached switch to turn off the alarm.
Disconnecting your car battery is typically supposed to reset your car alarm, but an electrical problem could cause your car alarm to keep going off after a battery change.
What to do:
Take your car to a mechanic
if the problem persists. Just make sure to find and turn off the alarm transmitter first, or just remove the battery and call a tow truck.
