How do you reset a BMW oil change light?

I recently had my uncle, a retired mechanic, change the oil in my BMW. I think he forgot to reset the maintenance light though because it’s still on. How can I turn off the oil change light on my BMW?

To reset a
BMW
oil change light, follow these steps:
  • Step 1: Turn the ignition on but don’t start the engine. If your car is push-to-start, press the start button without depressing the brake pedal.
  • Step 2: Hold down the odometer or trip reset button on the instrument cluster until the service menu appears. The reset button is typically located to the left of the speedometer.
  • Step 3: Use the reset button to scroll through the settings until you find the oil change warning. Depending on the model, you may need to use the controls on the turn signal lever instead to scroll through until you see a prompt asking if you’d like to reset the warning.
  • Step 4: Press the reset button or press the button on the end of the turn signal lever to reset it.
  • Step 5: Hold the reset button or the turn signal lever button until the display shows it is resetting.
  • Step 6: Confirm reset if prompted.
And just like that, you should be good to go!
